Late 20th century pair of steel candlesticks by Zelig Segal. Uniquely designed, each candlestick is shaped as a tall, minimalist pillar. A cut in the shape of a half Star of David at the top of each candlestick creates the full symbol when the candlesticks are joined together. Alternatively, the minimalist and symmetrical design allows the candlesticks to be presented in different ways, each unique in its own way. Signed by the artist at the bottom. Zelig Segal was born in Jerusalem in 1933 and grew up in the Beit Yisrael neighborhood. His mother was the midwife of the settlement in Hebron and his father was a teacher in the "Etz Chaim" Talmud Torah in the Mazkeret Moshe neighborhood. In 1949 he began studying at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, and had a workshop in the Hutzot Hayotzer arts and crafts complex. The main works of Segal were in the field of design. His works utilized the inventive language of modernist design and minimalist art within the framework of modern Judaica. Every item in Menorah Galleries is accompanied by a lifetime “Certificate of Authenticity” and additional documentation and information regarding the individual artifact and its culture.
