Oil on board, New York, circa 1950. Depicting a standing bearded man wearing his tzitzis over his shirt pumping water to his horses. Signed lower right “I. Schor”. Ilya Schor (1904-1961), a master craftsman of Jewish ceremonial objects as well as jewelry, was also a talented painter. Here, he illustrates a shtetl scene from the memory of his younger years in pre-war Poland.
