Unique colorfully embroidered cover for a newborn (in the style of a challah or Matzah covers,) with an Hebrew text.

The upper part with biblical text from 'Roshey Tevoth' (first letters of the words); Ben Porat Joseph Ben Porat Ely Ain = I am a descendant of Joseph, and the evil eye has no powers over me. The quotation is a very frequent occurrence on Sephardic amulets, and never found on Ashkenazi ones, The lower part, embroidered in Yiddish: 'Sleep my child and be healthy' obviously on Ashkenazi amulet using a customary Sephardi quotation against the evil eye.

This combination of amuletic texts, never seen before is extraordinary, and the speculations as to why and how are unending, what is obvious is the fact that it was used against the evil eye, and the good health of the baby.

The two fish bulging eyes at the center are for the same purpose.
